There has never been a better time to become a registered nurse (RN) in New Jersey. With close proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City, the garden state is surrounded by excitement. Even if you choose to stay within state borders, there are many local landmarks to enjoy. You can stroll along the Ocean City Boardwalk, play around at the Silverball Pinball Museum, and see amazing shows at the Count Basie Theater. You won't be bored in New Jersey.
The average RN in New Jersey earns $77,360 per year. That’s a great salary, even if this state does have a higher than average cost of living. There’s a big demand for nursing professionals, with nine million people in the state all needing medical care. This demand will go up over time as more nurses will retire and not enough students will graduate to replace them.
New Jersey is not a member of the Nursing Licensure Compact. That makes it harder, but not impossible, to become a traveling nurse after studying in this state. You can apply ahead of time for licenses in other states to get around the NLC issue if you wish.
The Best BSN Programs in New Jersey
Even though there’s a serious nursing shortage, it isn’t easy to get into a BSN program in this state. New Jersey has a shortage of nurse educators too - which limits the number of students that can enter BSN programs each year. Apply for several programs from this list to increase your odds of acceptance.
