Texas is a huge state with a storied history and heritage. It is perhaps most famous for the Battle of the Alamo, where a brave crew of 100 military men fought and lost their lives to protect their fellow Texans from invading troops. More recently, Texas is home to the Space Center in Houston, which includes a museum, and the beautiful Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.
With a population of 27 million people, Texas is the second most populous state in the United States. That’s one reason why the state is facing a nursing shortage that threatens to grow to 70k open jobs by the year 2020. This is a worrisome trend that is only getting worse with time. There are two factors making it hard for state officials to end the nursing shortage. Firstly, a large percentage of the workforce is near retirement age. Secondly, it’s hard to educate enough new nursing professionals, especially when some nurses quit within a few years on the job.
You can earn a great living with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or BSN, degree in Texas. Registered nurses in the lone star state earn an average of $58,480 per year. With great job security and the demand for nurses only going up with time, getting your BSN degree is a safe bet in this state.
